KAWICCODA works with communities around Kasungu National Park to conserve biodiversity and build resilient livelihoods.
KAWICCODA is a community-led trust working with local people to conserve Kasungu National Park and surrounding natural resources. Established under Malawi’s National Wildlife Policy (2018), we ensure communities actively participate in conservation while benefiting from it.
Through a Co-Management Agreement with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife, we receive a share of park revenues and resources, reinvesting them into livelihoods, conservation projects, and local development.
We believe conservation and development go hand in hand — protecting wildlife while creating opportunities for communities to thrive.

Working with communities to conserve Kasungu National Park and build resilient livelihoods.
We support households with sustainable alternatives like goat pass-on schemes and small agro-enterprises. By strengthening incomes, we reduce dependence on wildlife resources and empower communities to thrive.
Through woodlots, agroforestry, and natural regeneration, communities around Kasungu are restoring degraded forests. These efforts secure fuelwood, improve soil health, and protect biodiversity for future generations.
To reduce human-wildlife conflict, KAWICCODA and partners are building a solar-powered fence around Kasungu National Park. This protects communities from crop raids while safeguarding elephants and other wildlife.
They will be getting 25 percent of the money we make per month so that they might feel part of the ownership of the park.
Climate-smart agriculture techniques like fortified composting, helps to protect Kasungu National Park and its surrounding natural resources. Poaching and deforestation are slowing down because families now have better and safer ways to make a living.
